History
Chelsea Instruments Ltd was established in 1965 as a spin off from Imperial Collage, London. It merged in 2001 with Marine Acoustics Ltd to form the Chelsea Technologies Group.  A  team of highly experienced scientists and engineers are engaged in design, development, production engineering and marketing of a wide range of oceanographic sensors, sonar systems, acoustic transducers, towed vehicle system and OEM bio-medical instrumentation. Applications include  environmental monitoring, acoustics sonar, biotechnology, advanced optics and technical and consultancy.  CTG’s comprehensive research and development facility provides a centre of excellence for novel sensor design, prototyping and manufacture.

Marine Systems
The Marine Systems Group  specialises in a range of innovative sensors and systems for the monitoring of the physical, optical and biological oceanographic environment. Parameters include temperature, conductivity, depth, chlorophyll, turbidity, transmission, fluorescence and bioluminescence.  A full range of Acoustic products include hydrophones, projectors, communication transducers, pingers and sidescan sonar arrays.  We also provide full  turnkey towed undulating vehicle systems fitted with a wide range of sensors.

Defence
Within the Defence Group, CTG offer a range of acoustic and oceanographic sensors designed to meet a diverse range of military requirements.  Standard military acoustic products include active and passive transducers (including ceramic composites and barrel stave transmitters), echo repeaters and sonar calibrators.  CTG also offer a number of turnkey systems for use by the Military in such diverse applications as Anti Submarine Warfare (ASW) and Rapid Environmental Assessment (REA), as well as complete sonar systems for test, evaluation and training applications.

Homeland Security
CTG has also established itself as a major supplier of equipment and services to the Homeland Defence market, developing novel methods of detecting threats to homeland water supplies and providing sensor systems for continuous monitoring.  CTG with other partners has developed a robust portable assay processing systems for the rapid detection of infectious agents that can be deployed in the event of unexplained clusters of acute febrile illness, fatality or a potential terrorist incident.

Life Science
Within the Life Science Group, CTG provides a contract development service to assist partners, ranging from techology start-ups to multi-nationals, to fastrack from concept through to full manufacture a wide range of medical diagnostic and scientific instrumentation.  CTG’s scientific and technical skills, combined with the companies manufacturing capability provides clients with a unique resource.  Products developed within the Group range from hand held photometers / fluorimeters for point of care markets through to sophisticated laboratory systems for rapid PCR and microarray analysis.
